In 2021 I set out to learn watercolour, as it’s a medium that I’ve wanted to get a handle on for some time now. The year has now passed, and I can honestly see a big difference in not only how I approach watercolour, but how much better they turn out in comparison to when I started. Don’t get me wrong though, I still have room for improvement!
Below is my last watercolour of the year. It’s a small painting, roughly 9 x 13cm, of a bauble that’s been on the tree for as long as I can remember. I like painting at these smaller sizes - it doesn’t feel as bigger a defeat if it doesn’t turn out as you’d hope!
So what about next year? Well, I hope to continue with my watercolours, but in addition to that I’m really wanting to improve my drawings in general. This means that I’ll mostly concentrate on studying the fundamentals like anatomy, perspective etc. I also want to play around with different mediums a bit more and experiment with different styles too.
Anyway, enough with my ramblings - wishing you all the best for 2022.
